Our Mission

At Rowan Academy, our mission is to deliver a customized learning experience that is tailored to meet the academic and developmental goals of each student. As a play-based, inclusive early learning center, Rowan Academy offers a variety of preschool programs that focus on essential areas such as critical thinking, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, social-emotional development, and self-help skills. Furthermore, Rowan Academy is fully licensed by the Virginia Department of Education.

History of the Rowan Tree

The rowan tree has a rich and ancient background in Norse and Celtic mythology. Often referred to as the “Mother of all Trees,” the rowan tree is believed to possess mystical and healing properties. Its wood was traditionally used to protect against adversity, much like the customized learning experience that nurtures individual growth in educational settings. In modern times, the rowan tree symbolizes growth and rebirth, similar to the values promoted by Rowan Academy in their preschool programs.

our Founders

Mary Rose Woo and Suzanne Slye, veteran preschool teachers, founded Rowan Academy in collaboration with Dr. Ali Temple, owner of First Priority Occupational Therapy, LLC, after identifying a growing need for a partnership between educators and families to create a customized learning experience for children within their preschool programs.

Our Location

We are located in the education wing of The Church of The Holy Comforter, where we offer customized learning experiences through our preschool programs at Rowan Academy.
