We place emphasis on teaching age-appropriate life skills in conjunction with academic learning.

Our Mission

At Rowan Academy, our mission is to provide a customized learning experience tailored to the achedemic and developmental goals of each student. Rowan Academy is a play-based, inclusive, early learning center focusing on the fundamental areas of critical thinking, fine motor, gross motor, social-emotional, and self-help skills. Rowan Academy is fully licensed by the Virginia Department of Education.

History of the Rowan Tree

The rowan tree has a rich and ancient background in Norse and Celtic mythology. The rowan tree is considered to be the “Mother of all Trees” and many believe it has mystical and healing properties. The wood from a rowan tree was often used to protect against adversity. In modern times, the tree symbolizes growth and rebirth.

our Founders

Mary Rose Woo and Suzanne Slye, veteran preschool teachers, established Rowan Academy with Dr. Ali Temple, owner of First Priority Occupational Therapy, LLC, after recognizing a growing need for a partnership between educators and families to guide children within a traditional preschool environment.
